Never understood Arrow Points. When a Cub earns all he can get, in order to display them proudly at a Pack Meeting he has to keep his uniform shirt untucked. The leaders all tell him to tuck in his shirt and then he has to hide all of his Arrow Points. I'm sure we're smart enough as an organization to fix that one.

Well you've hit the nail on the head, sort of. It's the PROGRAM that counts, and it's a great transitional program. We're only talking about a name change here, not what the progam does for kids. Tradition is fine, but we have been known to drop traditions before, and if the ultimate goal is to retain kids, why not try it? Heck, I'd try changing it for a year or three to see if we retain more kids simply with a name change. If not, no harm, no foul. And to the previous poster, the only thing most kids know about "The Jungle Book" these days is from the Disney cartoon...likely the sequel.

We professionals don't often hear it because o fou rlimited exposure to the boys when we're busy doing so many other things. However, as a former Webelos Den Leader of five years, I know for a fact that boys make fun of the name, are embarrassed by it, and quit over it. I'm pretty sure that's not what we want. I wholeheartedly agree with changing it and have for years. But since studies show that Cub Scouting is already "too long", how about taking 4th, 5th AND 6th graders and building them an entirely new "middle" program so we'd have Cub Scouts, ___ Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers? A whole new charter, a whole new $20. Call it anything you want, someone is smart enough to come up with a name that doesn't make kids want to quit. Oh ya, and it doesn't have to be named for an animal. What kid these days has read "The Jungle Book"?

No, the problem is location, as stated. The implied solution offered is - anywhere else besides the current location.

to kbryan...i quote you..."The Eagle award is for demonstration of Leadership."

I agree, but to limit the award to just demonstrating leadership demeans the award. It's much more than that. It's about helping boys to be the best person they can possibly be, mentally, physically, emotionally and to otherwise prepare them for a life of leadership through experience and training.

I agree that those here who say the current requirements for Scholarship are a bit weak, and could be beefed up if made required. But I hope it's considered for Eagle at some point. No one is saying they need to carry an "A" average. But some demonstration of scholastic achievement should be a consideration for Eagle...and not just "how ya doin in school Billy?" at an Eagle Board of Review.

I think there's a decent case for this. I don't necessarily see it as part of any of the Citizenships (but then I think there should only be ONE Citizenship MB with 3 sections to complete). Definitely should look at this as an optional requirement for Family Life MB though. Requirement: Do one of the following A) As a Boy Scout, earn the religious award for your faith or B) blah blah blah....
