Remove the plaid from the Webelos uniform. Follow the lead of the Centennial Boy Scout uniform and go for a more subtle and muted look. The uniform should be something that a 4th or 5th grade boy wants to wear to emulate older boys. Older boys don't wear plaid hats or plaid neckerchiefs.

I had lunch with staff from the local Girl Scout Council last week. They have implemented STEM as an integral part of their program. I also noticed they have also almost eliminated the outdoor program from Girl Scouting on a regular basis. Let's not follow this trend - it is scope creep. Let STEM stay in schools and Scouting stay in the outdoors (for the most part.)

We also have to make custom reports to provide district and council training committee members because the MyBSA reports are not exactly what they want. This idea is what they want!

Poor training records is perhaps the biggest customer complaint in our council. Anything that the National Council can do to help us improve our service is greatly appreciated.

I agree. More girls = more retained boys. We also need to clarify the brand of Venturing. It is not Venture, it is Venturing. Most recruiting is to be done at the crew and district level, but after 10 years of Venturing the time is right for a national campaign of recruiting and brand definition.

I must agree with tmartin. One of the most common reasons I hear that a boy leaves a Cub Pack or does not join a Troop is that he is bored and has been doing the same thing for 3-5 years. If we add on another year of Cub Scouting, this will increase the severity of this problem, particularly in mediocre packs where adult leaders use too much repetition.
If we implement this plan, I think we must consider removing Webelos from Cub Scout packs and making them either stand-alone units or as arms of Boy Scout Troops.

Unit leaders do not make entering hours on a web site a priority, and in small or weak units they almost never will.
We sould try putting this responsibility on the youth. A Cub Scout or Boy Scout will more readily go online to enter his service hours than an overwhelmed adult leader who thinks of this as a low priority. Make entering service hours a part of the Boys' Life web site and watch for an increase in the number and accuracy of service hours entered.

Yes! Just as commissioners can track visits online and unit leaders may enter advancement, a local council should have the option of allowing district and council volunteers to enter training and generate live training reports. One of the top complaints I have seen about council operations are faulty training records, and controlled volunteer access would help with this customer service element.

I agree. While the current Tiger Cub image may be appropriate for 1st graders, it seems childish by the time a boy is in 3rd or 4th grade. This would continue the integration of Tiger Cubs into the Pack that has been slowly happening over the years and is now pretty much complete.
