If you look on the old uniform, there was a patch that said Boy Scouts of America. It has since been replaced with glued on letters. These letters begin to fall off after awhile. I think we should return to having the Boy Scouts of America placed on a embroidered patch that will last. It looks horrible when you put on a shirt that says Boy cout of America.

I agree that the name does need to be changed. 15 years ago when I was that age I know we made the jokes. And as for the comment that boys do not join or quit because of the name and its jokes, I hate to say it but I know it is true. When you have your peers making fun of the whole program and saying that We blow etc... it does get to you as a youth. I also know that by the time we made it to Boy Scouts I was one of 3 left from a den of 7 and by the time I made Eagle I was the only person from my class who was involved in Scouting. I do not think that it had to do with the program though there can be some improvements. I think the real issue that comes here is that there is peer pressure that makes it difficult for a boy to want to be involved with the program. If you look at the media, the image of a Boy Scout over the last several years has been that of the nerd or the outcast kind of kid. While in High school I would hear the comments and the jokes, and I will be honest, there where times I thought about giving in. I am glad id did not. What I am saying though that changing the way the youth view the Scouting movement is what is going to increase membership. Changing the Webelos name will help with some of the teasing, but, it is not going to cause a huge jump in Webelos membership. We need to look at the macro problems here and start changing the way the Youth see scouting in addition to the way the adult population sees it.
