This idea came from a Director of Field Service that promoted 5 Executives/Directors in a period of six months. As far as he/we know there is no template for an executive leaving the position.

Will the CPD or the appropriate department put together a template for Council's/Manager's to use
What about having teams of professional Scouters whose sole job is to go to a council and help solve critical issues. We have so many councils that do things right and many that don't. if we had a service team of career professionals who go to different councils to help them solve problems and create solutions. My vision of the team would consist of a District Director, Field Director, Finance Director, and Camping Director. The Area Directors do a great job of working with the Scout Executives, this team would get their hands dirty working with the Council staff to achieve success.

The idea of change is great, but it is very hard to implement. more often than not councils do what they have always done instead of thinking critically about their operations and their success. Yes, many councils make small changes from year to year, but often they are not enough to quickly turn around membership, Manpower, Money, or camping shortfalls. With a team in place and on location to offer an alternative and assist in implementing this alternative it is much easier to accept and adapt. The current philosophy is that if we send out a manual, councils will read it and go about making the apropriate changes.

A direct service team to get all councils operating in line with each other could be a very effective tool in reversing negative trends in an impactful and fairly cost effective way.

From: Gary Butler, National Director, Council Solutions Group

Chad gets an A for this one! He is right - these issues are systemic and usually need more help than council leadership can provide. What he describes is at the heart of the mission of the Council Solutions Group. While cost is limiting how much can be done, more and more national and regional teams are being sent to councils for help with recruitment, fundraising, leadership, and program challenges. Failure to ask for help when it is available is a major weakness in a leader. Chad - dinner on me next time you are in Dallas.

I think "Invaded by Outsiders" is not the feeling that anyone would get if they were in fact struggling. 1st of all, we are all in this together, there are no "Outsiders". 2nd, If I am struggling at something i would appreciate the help and an additional point of view. I believe that moral would be boosted knowing that there are resources and pros out there willing to get there hands dirty and help out. We all need that from tome to time no matter how well our Districts/Councils are doing.
