As we move toward mandatory or required training for adult leaders, perhaps we should consider implementing a continuing education requirement. Each leader being required to earn a certain number of CEU's based on their position. CEU's could be earned, for example, by attending Roundtable, a training session, presenting at a training, mentoring a new leader...

Of course this would be dependant on a method of tracking training attendance within Scout-net, an issue which is supposed to be addressed as we move to mandatory training.
As a Venturer, I promise to
do my duty to God and
help strengthen America,
to help others, and

to seek truth, fairness, and
adventure in the world.

There is something odd about those last two lines. In our other Scouting Oaths and Laws, we promise to guide our actions in certain ways. In these two lines we are expecting the rest of the world to act in certain ways; to be truthful and fair. News Flash! The world is not fair and often folks are not tuthful. We have no control over how the rest of the world acts. The oath should be focused on what we can control, our own behavior. I suggest changing the oath to read:

'to be truthful and fair and to seek adventure in the world'.

Without a significant change in the Webelos program, this seems to be a way to 'bore' kids out of Cub Scouts long before they are old enough to join Boy Scouts. I'm afraid it would be a killing blow to our core program - Boy Scouting.

These are all great idea's. Mark's idea would also fit in nicely with a 'continuing education' format for training. After getting their basic training out of the way, require leaders to earn some small number of CEU's every couple of years in order to continue as 'TRAINED' leaders. These CEU's could be required, or as a recognition, perhaps just used to earn a year tab to update their trained strip.
