There is a trend w/ companies adopting a "Green Friday" policy that would make sense for the BSA, too. For Green Friday, the company closes on selected Fridays throughout the year to conserve resources. During the designated Green Friday weeks, employees are expected to complete the week's work in four days. This gives employees several three-day weekends that they wouldn't otherwise have.

There are many ways the BSA can and does support a green attitude. Implementing an idea like this one is best reviewed by individual location and perhaps even by position. We will keep this idea in mind as we look at many green initiatives.
Throughout the national office (in elevators, hallways, restrooms, etc.), post the BSA Mission Statement, Scout Oath, and Scout Law. These can serve as visual daily reminders to employees for why we are here, who we serve, and how we should behave.

Another nice touch would be extending these daily reminders to callers. Have famous Distinguished Eagle Scouts recite the Scout Oath and Scout Law, and play these recordings instead of elevator music while callers are put on hold.

You'll be happy to know that we now address etiquette in the Family Life merit badge requirements and pamphlet. The new pamphlet will be available in early 2010, and the new requirements will become official when the 2010 Boy Scout Requirements book is released in January 2010.
