When possible, it would be helpful to eliminate the K-6, 7&8, and high school format in ScoutNet when inputing LFL schools.

With the new license agreement structure, it shouldn't matter how we have the units broke out. The issue is with Middle school entries: if you have a school with 6, 7, and 8 graders, you currently need 1 Memorandum for the 6 graders and then a separate one for 7&8. Or, if you 7, 8, and 9 grades in the middle school you need a 7&8 form and then one for the 9th graders.

The registars are confused. Just eliminate the grade brake outs to solve this problem. Units are no longer tracked within the in-school program. ScoutNet should reflect that and less paperwork to be done. Basically... one form per school building no matter how many grades it has.

Thanks...

Its been a long time coming, but Posts need the ability to renew online. Traditional programs have had this service going on three years I believe.

Exploring is the one program where all your Post Advisors will have access to the internet, even in rural areas (Police & Fire Posts), and be able to renew online. How much longer do our Posts need to wait for this most needed service.

Thanks...

Explorer Post internet rechartering is currently a project in development as directed by our Learning For Life team. Their latest estimate is that it will be available during the next rechartering cycle in 2010.
There are 12 promoted career clusters in the Exploring program. There are promotion materials (brochures / fliers geared toward youth) available only to the Aviation, Fire, and Law Enforcent clusters.

As big as Health Care, Law, and Engineering careers are, it would be helpful to have brochures / fliers made in these career areas if not in all 12 clusters from national support means.

I hope consideration would be made toward this request.

On mybsa under Learning for Life section under Exploring are ad's for each of the12 career clusters that can be easily be made into promotional fliers. We have promotional videos foe law enforcement, health, fire and coming this Fall, science.
Since 1998, Exploring Posts have been excluded from using High Adventure Bases in the summer months. They have access during the off peak months.

Posts who wish to use the summer programs should not be treated differently as their counterparts. They are not treated differently at the local councils (as far as I know), why should they on the Nation level.

LFL pushes the outdoor experience in its programs and in the available literature.

Please make the change in the policy to correct this. Thank you!

The Summer months at the high adventure bases are reserved for members of the Boy Scouts of America. Explorers may go to the high adventure bases from September thru April. Let's encourage them to go there during school breaks by developing special programs just for them.Any ideas?

It would be nice to have by December with a new renewal season upon us...

I understand that National BSA would like to see more out of Exploring.

If we had the tools equal to traditional BSA in the way of technology, I believe that would happen. But until that day comes...

David,

I would agree with you... I should restate my request in this fashion: free up the student entry catagories that it allows grade level entry but not just based by K-6, 7&8, and high school but possibly more by individual grade level however the grades levels happen in the school building. Does that make sense...

In Learning for Life, we have experienced great programming for our 6, 7, & 8th grade schools when we have them out on our climbing towers and ropes courses at our local camp. It is interest to see the interaction of the students, male and female, at this age and how they support each other on these challenges. Maybe we could look at the 7 & 8 grades for Venturing or have it as a separate program under a different name. Not a bad thought tho... most Girl Scouts are done after 6th grade and this would be a great Scouting alternative for them.

I agree on this. YouTube provides non-profits free pages to list their videos on. Our council has its own page for our local videos.
With computers, projectors, and smart boards at most schools and businesses, it would help immensely to have our National videos easily accessible using this resource at sales calls. Click and go...

Again, I will stress the need on YOUTH based materials. Yes there are the promotional inserts available for most of the career clusters. Which is helpful with sales calls.

However, for the youth materials, there are only 3 of the 12 clusters represented with brochures and/or fliers.

If we really want to make an impact this fall with celebrating 60 years of Exploring, it would be helpful to have those youth resources.

This is a good idea with our sister program (Girl Scouts) starting their program in Kindergarten. To many times school offices distribute Scout recruitment fliers to Kindergarten boys only to end up disappointed and learn that they need to wait a year to join.

It would be interesting to find out the Girl Scout retention rate with starting girls that young. Again, great news on Lion Cubs!
