After speaking to a newly selected district training chair, we decided we should submit the following ideas:

Guide to Safe Scouting: A separate training that takes them through the GTSS and quizzes them on certain things. I make sure that the GTSS is emphasized in our district trainings but it would be great if it were required.

AND...

A new category of training - Safe Scouting.
Under this would include ALL necessary trainings for safety including but not limited to:
Youth Protection
Climb On!
Hazardous Weather
and a new GTSS training
Safe Swim/Safety Afloat, etc.

We could say simply to volunteers, please go online and complete your Safe Scouting training courses. How simple would that be?

From: Richard Bourlon, Health & Safety Team Leader

Your ideas on safety training have been forwarded to the Health and Safety Support Committee for review and consideration at their May meeting. Any output from the committee will need to be worked into the BSA strategic plan and an integrated approach developed to implement across the BSA.

Great idea - I also just wanted to let Chris know that our district holds annual training on the first Friday of October and it is a HUGE success every single year. This year we had 37 new leaders trained on a Friday night. They just love the idea of having their Saturday's free. Evenings are precious and already full.

Why all the down votes folks? This is a great idea and we need to start asking now for the % to be donated to Scouting on Sunday, FEBRUARY 7th. or for the entire month. This is a great idea.

Our council has a plethora of council strips - one for $350 sales in popcorn; one for FOS gift of $150 annually - so a new one every year!; ones for Cub Scouts stuff - ones for the 100th Anniversary. I have a different council patch on each of my uniforms - at least 5. And I've worked in the council 7 years. Hummm....

I think the idea really has merit because it will generate revenue for the store. Most Scout Shops have the ability to hang up some uniforms. They could set standards - clean, not missing any buttons etc. and make this happen.

The BSA believes in being THRIFTY (although most Americans don't life that way now a days) and we should be debt free. I'm sure there is some financial benefit to council's and the national organization for having the LOGO on a credit card.

National absolutely should take a look at our Health Care costs and programs already offered by the insurance company. I am in a program through our insurance carrier (UHC) for healthy living. Then our council was chosen for a Slim living? or some type of program that national is looking at using? Now, why, when your insurance program already has a program for you, would you duplicate and pay for an additional program? Wondering minds just sometimes want to know...and I'm sure that competition for the BSA would lower costs.

Very few folks pay per msg and it's the same concept as twitter...you simply say No if you don't want it. I say yes!

I completely agree that the most commonly used forms should be updated first!!

My Scouting ***could*** but like many, we are social networked out and I personally find that I can find what I'm looking for on FB and I don't need to log in and create another profile. We are setting up a FB account for the district as well.

I completely agree!

And...actually Venturing begins at age 14-20. Do you know the programs you are selling?

I would just add that this should be clearly seen from the first screen. Ty for the suggestion.

It should be longer and VERY motivational.

I would second the question below. Youth can stay in Venturing until age 21.

I would just like to add that this problem is not limited to MAC users. I have a 64 bit Vista laptop and I cannot access the secure.mybsa from home now either. Thanks for looking into it.

This idea is brilliant and we should implement it immediately. I know that National is already producing short video segments on boys and that's great, but they could be narrated by the "Supreme Staff", lol...and posted more prominently on Scouting.org or something. Thanks for the idea.

While I believe going green is reasonable, I think if we were to go with hand blowers, we should have a ratio of some kind, like two hand blowers to one paper towel dispenser. Some people like myself simply enjoy drying their hands!

I'm totally confused as my insurance does cover an annual physical.
