We need to launch a major, nationwide, Scouting awareness campaign highlighting the adventure, friendship, values, character development and leadership the program instills in our youth. The campaign should include the following elements:

· Exciting marketing materials that showcase the cool and fun aspects of the program, explaining how such activities build character and leadership in Scouts
· Showcase the Community Service projects conducted by Scouts
· Explain the Scouting commitment to green initiatives
· Highlight former Scouts who are successful, explaining how Scouting made them the person they are today
· Place Scouts at prominent events throughout the country, ranging from flag ceremonies at rodeos to the Super Bowl
· Communicate all messages via ads on TV, radio, print and web
· Create a viral marketing campaign for current Scouts to invite their friends to join
· A clear call-to-action for youth to join Scouting today via an online application or by calling an 800 number

The concept of a national awareness campaign is a good one. Many of the elements suggested are underway:
 Words to Live By campaign launched in May (Words To Live By) which has TV PSAs, E-mail templates, billboards, posters, fliers, yard signs, etc.
 Youth user generated content for joining Scouting (Begin The Adventure)
 Value of Scouting highlights several community service projects (Inspiring Scouting Stories)
 BSA now has an official YouTube channel for sharing unique videos (Scout YouTube Channel).

Many of the other concepts that you suggest can be found in our 100th anniversary materials which includes:
 100th Anniversary Generations Connections - Arbor Day Foundation collaboration which will highlight Scouts planting trees across the US and the planting of a centennial forest (Generations Connection)
 BSA has also teamed up with some great organizations to offer unique 100th Anniversary service projects that can apply towards the Year of Celebration patches and Service awards. (Year of Celebration)
 An agreement with Major League Baseball for Scouts to participate in on the field ceremonies and activities in Pitch for Scouting
(Pitch for Scouting Playbook)
 Alumni Connection – At (www.BSAalumni.org) Scouting alumni can find friends and mentors, add photos and stories to the 100th Anniversary Online Scrapbook and more!
 The National Hall of Leadership provides a one-time opportunity for you to honor and recognize a Scouting leader who positively impacted your life, or the lives of others. (National Hall of Leadership)
 Recruitment tool for youth – Scouts and non-Scouts alike will enjoy a fast-paced, high-tech treasure hunt using GPS devices – Get in the Game Geocaching (www.geoscouting.com/)

Other information updates are posted on the 100th Anniversary website (100th Anniversary) Updates will include:
 A Shining Light Across America - One night at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree, we will use virtual hookups to broadcast a stage show. This will mark the first time in our history that the entire Scouting family has come together for a single, nationwide opportunity to celebrate and reflect.
 BSA Adventure Base 100 Tour - We’re travelling across the country to give people and exciting hands-on view of the history and future of the BSA
 Rose Bowl Parade float for New Years Day

Budget restrictions have kept us from being able to make media buys for advertising, but we continue to utilize new digital outlets and social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube to disseminate the messages.

Thanks!

Girl Scouts of America professionals are in "Professional Dress Uniforms" any time they wear the official Girl Scout pin. Short of a funeral I am not sure I can name a particular time when a dress uniform is necessary.

The packet of silica in my kids shoe box says not to ingest and all these years they have managed to not eat it... Let's spend time teaching our kids how to make good choices and take the restraints off of fun activities!

Kids are doing high adventure activites with or without Boy Scouts! Why not give them a safe environmnet to actually learn how to jet ski, paint ball, ATV, etc. Or we could wrap them in bubble wrap and set them on the couch in front of the TV and watch them morph into lifeless blobs. Or just keep on doing what we are doing now and watch our retention numbers continue to decline...you decide.
