When all youth and adult applications are entered into Scoutnet, email addresses are also entered (if they are on the application). Would it be possible to include each person's email address on their Personal Profile?

I realize that you can run reports that include email addresses, but it would be very convenient if the Scoutnet user could click on any given person’s profile and could find their email address there as well.
I understand that there is an assessment tool for prospective council board members, to help match their talents with specific positions.

How about creating a tool designed to help volunteers find which district committee they would fit best in and enjoy working with. This might ease the process of filling the district committee and in return quickly get unit service up and running for all units.

With the extreme networking power and precense on the internet of Myspace and Facebook, would a national ad campaign be affective? I know in my council there are numerous scouts who create facebook groups for summer camp staff, oa lodge activities, troops, etc.

Millions of youth in the target age group for scouting are online, lets take it to a whole new level!

Social networking is an expanding communications channel. The National Council is developing guidelines for councils to use in managing these channels locally. Paid advertising on social networks is a potential avenue to explore the key is return on investment. National will continue to look at the possibility.
How come each region doesn't at least attach the list of promotable/eligible professionals to the friday reports sent to all Scout Executives? It seems like that would be one more thing to help the process, and to ensure that the HR system is somewhat friendly to those who are actually trying to make a career out of this.

@ Mark - thanks for helping me out when you were down here in sunny Corpus Christi!

@ National - thanks for taking this into consideration. The market for youth/leaders/alumni on facebook is much bigger than one could possibly imagine. I think that through social sites, particularly facebook, a world of good could happen. The president raised millions of dollars on facebook! We can raise awareness!! I believe that awareness is connected to everything from FOS to new recruits, we need as much of it out there as possible.

Maybe even groups like the NFL could sponsor advertising.

@ Mark - from mybsa, without entering Scoutnet, you can pull a person's profile with their email address?

@ Cyndi & Eric - you can't access the program feature of Scoutnet outside the office, simply the PAS find, which through that search of a person, unless I am missing something, the person profile does not show their email address...ideas?

I understand how to search for people through "funding" @ Mybsa, however, just like a search through PAS find, it only shows their address, phone number, unit registrations, awards and no email...am I missing a step?

as long as the respect for these topics don't include pure avoidance, I would totally agree...however, I believe that if these topics aren't in some fashion seen as tools to reach the youth that use the topics everyday, I believe we will in part fall by the wayside...we must use these things as tools with the appropriate "fear" (respect), not avoidance...cyber safety, like any other "dont' talk to stranger" plan is absolutely important

Amanda and pcowan...i am willing to bet that neither one of you even have facebook/myspace accounts...i would also venture to say that the strict regimented mindset of many people, much like yourselves, are one of the reason that on a social level, the boy scouts are far behind where they should be...no offense, but it's the lack of "innovation" from people like you two that will ultimately keep teh scouts in a box and drive them further and further into the ground...i say this as respectful as possible....almost every boy scout and venturer has a facebook account, just like an email account, if we don't try and meet them where they are, the program will suffer b/c we are so inflexible and aren't living in 2009

Amanda - I am talking about advertising throughout facebook and myspace - this has nothing to do with an account being set up, although i don't have a problem with an account for any group be-it a council or national, but that is cearly not what i am talking about...advertising - having national pay for ads that users of facebook and myspace see - online billboards to display the still strong precense of the BSA

This logic is completely backwards from the realm of marketing. Does the fact that there are channels on TV that kids shouldn't watch that we shouldn't have advertisements on there at all, out of fear that they may run across an inappropriate channel? Or how about the fact that every council, including national has a website, which we all know the www can be a dangerous place, but that doesn't mean we should shut our operations down or never run on tv commercials. Your argument (Amanda) is simply pointing out that the internet is dangerous...if the internet is dangerous, wouldn't you want the principles of the Scout Law to be present on the www?

Boy Scout Sims maybe?

you can come up with ingredients for an infinite amount of intended recipes, all with great intentions, but in my opinion a little pedantic, redundant from most of the current system, and a little out of touch with actually doing the work to accomplish something...might as well just keep coming up with plans that are soley meant to produce more plans, not results...get the job done and quit sitting on it!

I think it is a great idea! I have been to several winter OA events where they have their PS3s and X Box 360s connected to each other...believe it or not it is actually a turn on for a generation of kids who need just a little more..video games can create a very strong camaraderie..plus I have yet to meet a Scout who likes video games that doesn't also have a strong interesting in the "outing" in Scouting

What about a Facebook group or page of some sort? It wouldn't be impossible to use Facebook across the country. Facebook is a great way to link Scouts and Scouters across the nation. It would also be a great marketing tool for millions of people for the Jamboree or even the 100 year anniversary...
