Not only could we use the Cinemeetings format for some of the highlights of the National Jamboree, but with many of the 100 year anniversary events. It would be beneficial for audiences to "participate" in planning meetings, events or as a focus group by using local movie theatres as a venue.

We could use the cinemeetings format for the rollout of the new Personnel Development System, invite board members to view a keynote speaker from the National Annual Meeting and the list could go on and on.

This would save Councils and volunteers thousands of dollars in travel, food, lodging and countless hours of lost family time.

Cinemeetings is not brand new or my ingenuity (www.cinemeetings.com), it is yet another existing technological tool that needs further thought and discussion. Obviously, face to face is always the first and best method; however, embracing technology is a good fiduciary practice.

Thoughts on how else we could use this venue?

With many councils coming up short on budgets, it is apparent that a lot of Councils that are "inherited" are found to be in some sort of quagmire. As part of the Administrative Review process, if a council is found to be in a situation or possess a number of deficiencies, it would be great to have the National Council have a pool of Seasoned Scout Executives at their disposal, select what appears to be the best fit, and prior to opening the council for interviews, give these SEs a 6-12 month window to clean house.

This would provide the new SE an opportunity to be successful and to start off fresh and in good standing.

From: Gary Butler, Council Solutions Group Director

A task force has been formed under the leadership of the national council solutions group standing committee to study this and other issues relating to the issue of council solvency and minimum capacity to succeed.
With so many new Scout Executives anticipated in the next several years, it would be nice to have a brand new SE "either assigned or selected from an approved listing) have a seasoned SE as a mentor. I understand the purpose of the Area Directors, however, they are busy with ALL of the SEs in their area and their additional duties, plus, times are changing rapidly, and having a sitting SE as a mentor gives "live, real time experiences".

We currently are developing a mentoring program that will be rolled out with the Scout Executive certification program probably sometime next year.

As a proud US Navy Veteran, I have fond (and not so fond) memories of my days as well. We are not a military organization, we are the premier youth development organization who instill a sense of pride, citizenship and patriotism.

Having said this, we can do a better job of showing respect to our service men and women by recognizing Veterans Day as a Holiday, closing all offices.

Something to really think about...What the National Scout Shops sell and the money they can save goes into the retirement pool. Do you want your retirement dollars being given away? Just a thought.
