Some time ago, we had designated paper recycling bins; then they were removed and "confidential material only" bins appeared. I've always encouraged recycling in our council and even have my own bin, which I personally take to the recycler every so often. Even when people visit my cubicle, they'll still throw paper in my general trash can. You can't make people recycle if they're not interested. What kind of encouragement/incentive can national provide?

Beyond a national checklist, there should be such a checklist within each council -- a "welcome" package that includes (at least) a flow chart of who's who with contact info, a list of departments and their functions, and a copy of national's BSA Style Guide* to help the new professional or support person with Scouting terminology. Beyond that, the newbie should be required to "visit" certain council personnel -- professional and support -- and be signed off for each visit. For example, one visit would be to the person in charge of training a newbie to update his/her council web page(s) -- this would avoid ineffective "training on the fly." Another visit would be to the IT person to make sure e-mail account, phone number, website contact info, etc., have been activated or updated. *re: Style Guide... I took a copy of it and expanded it to include council specifics, such as council camp/properties info, council map with districts indicated, council-specific terminology or preferences, council trivia, and additional grammar problems that seem to plague our employees. My intention is that this document be an employee "bible." We are also discussing the idea of making it a downloadable PDF on our website so that our volunteers can access it.

A friend of mine has been a kindergarten teacher for 20+ years. She told me that every year the boys get upset when the Girl Scout Daisies gather in one corner for their "meeting" or activity. Why can't there be a pre-Cub Scout level for kindergarten/5-year-old boys? Actually, that's what I thought Tiger Cubs was until I started working for the council.

I agree. Give us an option to sort by name or type. Also, if I'm looking at logos and enter a keyword to search, I don't want to receive photos in my results, and vice versa. And sometimes the name doesn't provide enough info or I don't understand what the info says. For example, "bdr, "min," and "dim" (and "lrgdim") are in the names of some of the 100th anniversary logos. What do those letters mean? I know what "pms," "notxt," "bw," and "gry" in the names mean -- and probably "sm" means small version -- but with seeing only 8 items on a page, I was getting crosseyed looking through the 161 anniversary logos! There appears to be three styles of the new logo, each using a different form of the fleur-de-lis. Why not sort them separately by fleur-de-lis style?
