To help in the preparation of our Boy, Varsity, or Venture Scouts as they enter the job market, perhaps we should consider a requirement to review and practice interviewing skills. As a parent, it has become clear that our schools do not do a fantastic job of working with the kids on this skill, so perhaps a reinforcement of some basic techniques could go a long way towards helping our Scouts become more prepared.
In response to the numerous postings about adding various merit badges to the current program, how about creating one new badge known as "design your own'? A Scout could work with an adult leader or counselor to show proficiency in a field of interest that is outside of the merit badge curriculum.

How about an online magazine for teens instead?

Excellent Idea! If we had this, then perhaps units would actually fill them out.

Venturing is used worldwide as a part of the Worldwide Scout Movement. It would not make sense for us to not use the same terminology as our worldwide brethren.

On a second note, perhaps we should consider reviving the Rover Scout program in the USA! This great program allows youth to participate until their mid-20's.

I agree that the publication should continue to be sent out in a printed format. It is a valuable use of time to read this and share with volunteers while between meetings. It is also nice to have it to refer back to. It is difficult to find the time during the day to fully read and appreciate any online publication. Sites like Yahoo are so successful (and convenient for a Scouter) with their news as they give highlights only - will our online version be similar with the daily updates to make it worth checking out regularly?. I would like more in depth coverage available on a timetable that fits my schedule better. Thanks for reconsidering.

I have not come across difficulties with visits - even in New York City and Long Island.

Disc Golf should be incorporated as an alternative requirement to Golf MB. We already do this with Snow Sports and Skating MBs. Most schools today use Disc Golf as a part of their PE program and schools are starting to install courses due to the low costs of maintenance and the ease of use. The schools certainly do not utilize regular golf as a curriculum addition except as a High School sport.

Very good idea. I would suggest that instead of a District level team, to focus on a Council level team. Too often, the units that struggle are within the Districts that are struggling.

Putting together a team or two from your best resources may be more effective.

American Camp Association was also begun in 1910. The BSA already works with the ACA.

I agree that the new uniforms are a good move. The two major complaints which I have heard are 1) eliminate the shoulder pocket and 2) many of the ladies do not like the bulky front pockets.
