It seems that so much of the information and resources are available not only to everyone...as in every.body....but also the school staff/administrators who sign a Memorandum of Understanding in order to use/implement the LFL program each school year. I think it makes more sense to assign a username/id and password to each school representative EACH SCHOOL YEAR. A new id and password should be assigned even to those schools who renew their contract with LFL...this limits the number of folks who have access to the information for free! I think we all know that some schools choose to use LFL for one school year, keep the materials, and dont' renew the following school year with the full intention of still using the LFL materials.
On a more realistic note...I wish the public LFL website was more organized and user friendly, for my school staff's sake! I think it's a bit of a turn off when there are plenty of other character ed programs out there whose websites are very simple and organized in a manner that makes it easy for a first-time-visitor to find what he/she is looking for!

I like to make posts on Online Community Bulletin Boards about Join Scouting Night, or that it's never too late to Join Scouting, etc... I usually put it in the "parents" section, or the "school info" section with our office phone number. I get a couple hundred people that see these posts every time I make one. I also have appointed a member of my Marketing Committee to monitor these posts and respond accordingly.

This idea is from a volunteer in Loomis, CA.
Now that BSA is collecting tour applications online, why not let units see when and where other units are going camping? Units that go for the first time to a certain place outside of the normal time of the year could have a really bad experience. It would be helpful to see when everyone else goes.
One step further would be to set up a blind email system so later units could contact earlier units and ask specific questions. Along this same line it would be nice if the unit could write a review about the trip after they come home.

Many council websites are poorly done. They use designs from the early 90s (when the worldwide web was just starting). Most of all, visitors to some sites can't even tell the site is a BSA site. Very poor branding. Council websites should scream Boy Scouts, with style of course.
I'm sure lots of DE's and volunteers have graphics talents to share.

Instead of having a card printed for each individual training program found in the OLC / PAS why not have a training passport that can be downloaded as a pdf, and printed. It would have all training that the individual had completed in one spot, show dates and expirations. Business card size (folded) would be great. Brand it with the BSA logo!
As an added benefit it would also inable volunteers and scouts to "check" to see that training not done in the OLC was properly credited.

I have had more fustrations among Exploring Posts not being able to register online as the traditional programs do.
I also think that the paperwork that has to be completed is EXTREMELY complicated for volunteers. If the paperwork was more clear and asked for fewer signatures (especially repeat signatures) units may be more inclined to complete the paperwork and send it in without us tracking it down.
If you can buy car insurance online you should be able to register a unit online and have online youth applications :)

It has always amazed me how many trees have to die to support the paperwork of the Boy Scouts of America. One of the most glaring examples of this has been our approach to applications for both youth and adults. Ways to reduce the number of youth applications that a boy has to fill out from Cubs to Venturing is a discussion for another day.
My suggestion is that our registration department consider strategies that will permit chartered organizations, as well as districts and councils, to "promote" an adult from one position within that organization to another position, even if it's in a different unit. This would especially be useful to our favorite sponsors - those that sponsor units from all families of Scouting.

Consider eliminating the paper paystubs employees receive when they have direct deposit. Instead, offer this information online. It is more secure and saves time, money, and paper.
