This is submitted on behalf of the COR for four of my district's more than 200 units:

"Here is a possible suggestion. Since you have the boys' birthdays, can they send out automatic emails about once a month that tells the email recipient (COR) that certain individuals need to be transferred between units or something like that. If it were automated, it wouldn't create work for anyone in the scout office and you might see registrations/transfers occuring at the right time."

It could help us to retain youth who may be aging out of one program into another, and remind our CORs of their ongoing role in the management of unit membership. It would of course be relevant only to chartered organizations who sponsor more than one Scouting program, but this is a market segment that we want to support in any way possible. Is it desireable for his request to be accomplished?

An immediate/temporary solution: Currently a council can go to MYBSA/Membership and go to e membership analysis and get a listing of Webelos eligible to join Boy Scouting. That listing can be exported to Excel and sorted by pack.

The proposed idea was asking for automated emails to CORs. That would be a project that would require ISD development.
Email is truly a wonderful tool for requesting information and reminding people to submit information. However, it becomes very cumbersome when we at the local council level receive a notice that some report, form or data is due after we have already submitted it. I would encourage folks with email lists and due dates for collection of stuff to check their email list against those who have met the request and remove those emails from the reminder list. There are so many requests that often I can't recall who I asked to handle the request and whether it was completed. I then end up forwarding the email and getting a response that it has already been submitted. This process happens 2-3 times a day and amounts to a fairly large waste of time during the course of the week and not to mention the frustration.

Thanks for your consideration.

It would be nice to have email address show up on "PAS Find" personal profile. It could be on the List at left under "Home Phone" "Work Phone" ect..

ALso add Mobile Phone. I assume this data is pulled from ScoutNet. This is a quicker way to look up emails than going through ScoutNet..Program..Person..(search)..profile...internet..
Thank you,

Accessing the Person Profile through MyBSA Fundraising provides the user with a view of Multiple addresses, Multiple phone numbers and e-mail addresses. Opening the appropriate gadget on the person record shows all data entered in the system.

These are valid suggestions and will be added to the project list.
I was thinking, after years of service and building relationships, it would be good to provide retirees with their current email address. I would think that the current system could handle it. There might be a short transistion period of still receiving emails, like when moving from one assignment to another, but that would short. That would also help to keep them in the loop, and I am sure the additional financial support by having them better connected would more than pay for it.

Just thinking. After years of service, and building relationships, professionals should be allowed to keep their BSA emails addresses. Understanding that their needs to be a transition or passing of the torch, but after awhile that would be taken care of naturally. It would also be a great way to keep them in the loop so to speak. Just a thought.

" This is more of a policy issue than a technical issue. There are technical factors that need to be weighed in the decision; such as licensing costs of about $16,000 and additional disk space usage estimated at about 500gb (assuming a 100meg per mailbox). I would suggest the request along with this information be passed along to someone in Innovation, Relationships, or HR.

It would be nice to download my emails sent to my national generated email (first.last@scouting.org) to my gmail (or yahoo, msn, comcast, etc) account. This would require the national system to enable POP (Post Office Protocol). Why can't we do this? I use my gmail acccount because it has many more capabilities (never have to delete email, google search engine, etc) and is very secure. Chief Mazzuca preaches good communication and this would greatly help.

The nationally supported email system is for BSA use only. Email is BSA’s property and for security/privacy/liability reasons should never be forwarded to an outside email system.
At this time we have no plans to allow download of BSA email to other email accounts. Please note that computer based email viewers like Outlook and Windows Mail, and some cell phones, can receive and consolidate email from multiple email systems.
Not sure if this is a new idea, I believe it has been discussed in the past. As a way to keep track of Scouting alumni, each Eagle Scout should receive an email address that stays with them for life. I believe many colleges are doing this already. An address could be: johnsmith@eaglescout.org or something like that. This way we could keep track of them easier. They could have it forwarded to a primary email address. It could be setup where they would have to maintain it and keep it current. In this day and age, and this age group, email is a how they communicate. There are lots of details that would need to be looked at, like, would it be only for NESA members, or all Eagles/Scouts members, or, would you get the email address with your paid NESA membership? Just thought I’d float the idea out there. Thanks for the tool to do so!

In February 2009 extensive upgrades to the Member's Section of www.nesa.org will go online. These will include social networking and many other features, including permanent NESA e-mail addresses.
