Merging names is USUALLY easy. It is supposed to move ALL information into the remaining name. This is NOT so!! If there is a middle name/initial in the name being merged (not the remaining name), that infomation is not copied into the remaining name. Why isn't this happening?

It would be nice if all of the BSA sites that require user names and passwords would allow us to use the same combination we use to access MyBSA.

Is it possible to set up Unit Money Earning Applications on-line, just as we do Tour Permits?
|

It would be great if every unit in a district or council would be 100% online Advancement. The current system does help Cub Packs because they can't add belt loops and arrow points. I know that its not advancement but important to all the boys and packs. If the online advancement had a section where packs could record and keep track of the data for belt loops and arrow points then they would be more willing to sign up for online advacement.

Please add a field to flag a vendor as an organization (a company or corporation, not a person). There are times that I need a vendor report of just companies.

The current system for approving online tour permits is very ineffective in that "submitted" tour permits do not, by default, show on page one. Previous posts on this topic have received the response that "all you have to do is use the advanced search option instead of scrolling through the pages". While this is true it ignores the fact that this is very inefficient. For example, if you have say 10 "submitted" permits to approve you have to click on advanced search, wait for screen refresh, select "submitted" and click button, wait for screen refresh. Review and approve permit. Go back to advanced search, wait for screen refesh, select "submited" click button, wait for screen refresh.... you get the idea. If the default view was "submitted" approval of permits would be much improved.

When a Scout transfers from one council to another and provides their BSA ID number, there should be a means by which individual's data in ScoutNet is transferred from the old council to the new and generate a report of transferred Scouts for both councils. This would be helpful for scouts and their families, registrars, and even for field staff who are looking at membership numbers.

When people have problems using myscouting.org, they often contact the local council office for help. It does them no good, becuase local councils don't interface with operating myscouting.org. We then have to direct them back to to the myscouting.org website or contact the National Office and then call those individuals back, causing a delay in customer service. There should be a link on every page within myscouting.org to report problems (technical, data entry, broken links, etc) to more efficiently address problems with myscouting.org rather than burying it in the FAQ.

Please fix the typo on the left menu column.
"Internet Recharting" should be "Internet Rechartering"

When all youth and adult applications are entered into Scoutnet, email addresses are also entered (if they are on the application). Would it be possible to include each person's email address on their Personal Profile?
I realize that you can run reports that include email addresses, but it would be very convenient if the Scoutnet user could click on any given person’s profile and could find their email address there as well.

Is there a way that National could go to the companies that make CRM Software (Salesforce, ACT, etc...) and see if an arrangement can be made that can give local council level professionals access to these programs at some form of reduced cost. I would think that a resource like this would be invaluable in improving customer service to all of the professionals customers.

If when we look up a person in the PSA Find in ScoutNet, we could click a button to create a v.card, a file which is read by outlook and other softwares which would automatically populate the name, address, phone numbers etc. and can be saved. For those of us who use the Blackberry Enterprise or other linked smartphones, it would then automatically be entered into our telephone for future use.

Many of the files we are sent either from the higher-ups at National Supply, National Council, and the local councils we work with are using .docx, .pptx, .one, etc. It would be nice to be able to read these files with out having to bring my personal laptop into work with me so that I can read vital information.

With the decline monthly of usage for IE 7 and 8 and more and more website are being built with other web platforms, is National working on making Scoutnet more compatible with Firefox, Safari, or Chrome. Statistics show that IE is declining monthly and Firefox now has about 55% users with Safari and Chrome comprising another share of the web browser business. IE usage is declining monthly. Many of the district and council websites do not open correctly anymore in IE7 or 8. If we update our systems, Scoutnet, primarily Program will not even open. If we update to IE8, parts of Scoutnet do not work either. In fact the help desk told us to uninstall 8 so Scoutnet would work, even though Scouting.org tells us to upgrade to IE8. New computers don't even have IE7 and it's getting more difficult to find.
How is this being addressed and when can we anticipate better compatibly with other programs. Many of our volunteers complain they can't even use My Scouting and take the training courses if they are using a MAC.
It’s really becoming more and more of an issue on a weekly basis. I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

I am not sure if this is a possibility already, but I would like to be able to type in a training user code and pull up everyone in my council that has taken that training. That will help me see: who is shooting sports trained for day camp, who I can call on to help for lifeguard at camp, who may not be a current district volunteer but has taken the training, etc.

Need support from IT for those of us who have 64-bit Windows. Most new laptops come with 64-bit operating systems. However when trying to install Scoutnet 8.0 it will not install with the larger operating system. It would be helpful if Scoutnet were made available for those of us professionals and offices that have 64-bit Windows operating systems.

There are several awards that a youth can earn more than once; i.e the BSA Lifeguard, 50-miler, etc. When doing the data entry these can only be put in once. It would be nice for the youth if the system recognized that they earned awards more than one time. If there is a way to put it in the youth's record without the system indicating that "duplicate reocrds are not allowed" I would like to know. Otherwise, up-date the system so multiples can be put in.

Our current Internet Guidelines for Scouting Unit Web Sites was last updated 1/31/2006, well before the explosion of social medial tools.
Given that the organization is actively involved in social media now, we should consider revising these guidelines to be more reflective of current technologies.

We should put counters on the bottom of some of our websites, it would be awesome to track how many hits we get on them. To name a few, myscouting, jamboree, 100th anniversary, and scouting.org of course. To see in real numbers the peoples lives we touch every day would be a gratifying experience.

Since I have taken over doing the on line tour permits I have come up with a few changes that would benefit all of us using this system - I think all new tour permits should be shown on page one that way none of the employees processing them would have to scrowl through pages looking for the new ones - also the approval date should be shown on the screen so that for us that have special tracking logs to do we would know immediately which month it was in -

|
|
It would be helpful to have an advancement dashboard on mybsa.org much like we currently have a membership dashboard. This would enable us to track unit level advancements without having to go into scoutnet and print a report.

With Randall Stephens serving as our National Centennial Chair can't we work with his company (AT & T) on a National BSA Plan? I would much rather send my 160.00 a month to a company that has endorsed our organization as a whole. As a Council we are a small company, but we as the BSA as a whole we are a huge corportaion who all need cell phone plans. Would love a BSA discount and be able to support a BSA company. Let's work with the organizations that support the BSA!
Would also love to see a discount for Councils who purchase iPhones for employees. There are some cutting edge applications availbale that would make life easy for a district executive. National could even come up with a myBSA app to have all stats real time.

As the personal and professional use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, blogs and other social media/new media tools increase, the BSA should consider developing social media guidelines to assist employees in the proper and acceptable use.
These guidelines would cover appropriate professional use in serving and growing membership, as well as allowances for flexibility of personal use on personal time, without fear of violating corporate policies.

With the increasing popularity of e-book readers such as Kindle, Sony, etc. we should make the purchase of an electronic version of our handbooks, merit badge pamphlets, etc. available in these formats. Many other devices such as the I-Phone can be used to read e-books. Nationally many schools are adopting e-book readers for students as textbooks offer electronic versions. Electronic versions are cheaper for the customer to purchase and help project a "green" image for the organization (no killing of trees). The Girl Scouts already have their handbooks for sale in this format.

Let's take the information that is in our merit badge books and turn them into a series of 3-5 minute lessons that boys can view when needed. It is proven that people learn better through multimedia. This would help the Scouts learn and be more along the lines of the things they do anyway.
Plus, someone w/ an iphone could download a video while at a Scout meeting or campout for all of the Scouts to learn...Can we make an App for that?
Likewise for the different Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, and 1st Class requirments.
