With the increasing popularity of the food network and the fact that almost every local television station has it’s own food spot on a morning or weekend news program there is a market here to reach out to.
Shows like Dinner Impossible could be approached to try cooking at the NSJ 2010, Philmont, or The Campaganza being held in Northwestern Pennsylvania.
Challenge the Iron Chefs to use charcoal as the secret ingredient at a Scout camp. Could Guy Fieri, Bobby Flay, & Emeril do patrol style cooking. Challenge Rachel Ray to 30 minute camping meals.
There are too many options to list.

We are all becoming more aware about our need to be more physically fit. Most of the suggestions for how we can bring a fitness theme to scouting are one-time events like fitness themed camporees, or short term events like merit badges.
For the last 4 months I have forced an hour of my day to be devoted to fitness. Most days I walk (2-4 miles). I figure I'm walking about 45 - 55 miles a month. I have lost 55lbs since I started.
I propose that we create an award to recognize youth, volunteers and staff for walking 100 miles in our centennial year. We could develop a little tracking card and a place to mail it in with fees for a patch.

Many companies offer a wear jeans to work days as a fundraiser for United Way, Cancer Reasearch, etc. How about a national Wear your Scouting uniform to work day on the week of the 100th anniversary?

When a Boy becomes an Eagle Scout our local, county, state and federal representatives will have a proclamation passed macking that day Eagle Scout Jihn Doe Day. We should ask our various governments, local, county, state and federal, to make February 8, 2010, Boy Scouts of America Day.

Similar to the recent health care debate that just virally travelled throughout facebook, on February 8, 2010 we create a viral campaign asking our scouting alumni to post on their facebook status "Once a Scout, Always a Scout" and the entire Scout Oath".
This would be an easy and quick way to celebrate scouting's 100th anniversary and market to 300 million people on facebook...

How about a knot to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Scouting. It should be available to all registured Scout & Scouters. The idea is the same as the US military uses for those involved in during a period of time.

Just came out of a "Cub Scouts 2010" session. The term "20/10" means "clear vision"--just ask your optometrist. So let's call this campaign...
Cub Scouts 2010--a Clear Vision for Growth
Any 2010 campaigns can use the "clear vision" tag

A real Innovation idea... We have found 350,000 Eagle Scouts in 2 years...that’s good. Let’s find 350,000 more in 2 weeks!!!
Contact FaceBook and ask them to create a place in their profile page to select Eagle Scout as an “Alumni Group”. This will start a viral message to “suggest friends” people of similar backgrounds (just like your HS classmates came up on your screen when you first joined).
If they do it, get MySpace, etc. Don’t know if we (BSA) are hooked in with these other social networking groups yet: Bebo Delicious Digg LinkedIn Reddit

Shows like Ace of Cakes are becoming quite popular. We should solicit this show to create a masterpiece cake to celebrate the 100th birthday of the BSA.
It might also be great publicity to solicit shows like Oprah to do a show on the Boy Scouts during the week of our anniversary.

With 100 years of history to draw on, can we compile a today in Scouting History on line calendar. Many of us are out talking everyday to groups of Scouts and supporters. I would have liked to include this information in our dailyu newsletter at Summer Camp. This would give us an interesting factoid about Scouting to share.

I would like to support the idea of a history channel show on Scouting over the last 100 years. It could be titled Made in America, and it could highlight some of the Harris pole outcomes as well as highlight contributions Scouting has made to America over the years.

The history channel has pulled together some great specials over the years, why not present one on the BSA in the USA? There's certainly plenty of material to cover, and without a doubt plenty of "historians" and collectors out there with insight to offer. I think it'd be a hit, and would get us into the public eye even more!
P.S.~ I'd like 10% of the video sale proceeds to go to my FOS goal. Can we make that happen?

Unfortunately, the Adventure Base 100 traveling exhibit will not be stopping in our council. However, it will be traveling through our council twice. Our folks are disappointed about it not being able to stop here, but understand the scheduling and time constraints involved. They are hoping though that it might be possible to get the schedule of when the exhibit will be driving through our council and its route so that we could provide the opportunity to our scouts and scouters to fill various highway overpasses so that they can see it go by and wave. This could be an exciting opportunity for scouts across the country in other areas where the exhibit will be unable to stop.

ACE of Cakes - Chef Duffy could make the biggest cake to celebrate our 100th anniversary at the 2010 Jamboree. He has a TV show and is in Baltimore. Great publicity. Win Win for Ace of Cakes and the BSA.

Considering the appeal and influence that Oprah Winfrey has, why not contact her producers and see if they might consider the BSA's 100th Anniversary a topic worth showcasing? They can be contacted through oprah.com under Contact Us - The Oprah Winfrey Show - "Send us Your Show Suggestions". Seems like a great platform to get the exposure we desire to a worldwide audience.

We should try to get the home page of google to have a scout banner around it for BSA 100th birthday. They do it for major holidays and events. I would say this just might qualify

Not only could we use the Cinemeetings format for some of the highlights of the National Jamboree, but with many of the 100 year anniversary events. It would be beneficial for audiences to "participate" in planning meetings, events or as a focus group by using local movie theatres as a venue.
We could use the cinemeetings format for the rollout of the new Personnel Development System, invite board members to view a keynote speaker from the National Annual Meeting and the list could go on and on.
This would save Councils and volunteers thousands of dollars in travel, food, lodging and countless hours of lost family time.
Cinemeetings is not brand new or my ingenuity (www.cinemeetings.com), it is yet another existing technological tool that needs further thought and discussion. Obviously, face to face is always the first and best method; however, embracing technology is a good fiduciary practice.
Thoughts on how else we could use this venue?

While we are changing our scout uniforms to changing tastes and styles, why don't we think about changing our professional dress uniform to something more hip as well? Also, it would be an inexpensive change for National, since we buy our own jackets, slacks, etc..

Why not make jigsaw puzzles out of the Centenial Portrait for sale in Scout Shops and/or Service Centers?

Libraries and to a lesser degree schools are looking for displays in their lobbies. Can National put together a set of pre-made stickers, posters, flyers that Unit Serving Execs can use to create displays in these venues during February 2010. Some places will let you place a large science fair size display board while others are smaller spaces. By having pre-made items we can use, we can customize the display to the size permitted as well as add some district/ council specific items. Councils can order as many kits as they need for public displays across their area.

It would be great if the U S Post Office did BSA stamps in 2010.

Politics aside, Obama's campaign made a giant stride forward this year in terms of how he reinforced and solicited a connection from his constituents. One of the ways his campaign did this was by asking supporters to text their name to a certain number during mass gatherings. Once supporters did that the campaign entered them into a database and kept them in the loop via frequent updates. With all the opportunities we will have in the coming year including, as another post suggested, a color guard at the Super Bowl this would be a terrific chance for us to bring some lost Scouts into the fold. Imagine, the call is put out at the Super Bowl for all former Scouts to text their highest rank to '555-555-5555.' Instantly you have reestablished a connection with a working phone number to someone who was a Scout. Maybe 20 percent of the viewing audience will respond but that's still 20 or so million people perhaps. Respondents could then be invited via text to fill out a centennial survey online where further biographical information could be shared. These lost Scouts could then be included in the entire year of 100th anniversary celebrations and be made to feel welcome in the Scouting family once again. They could be called to serve as a volunteer or might be more receptive to future calls to support local councils. At the very least we would have gathered some statistical data and perhaps build a new communications delivery infrastructure which bypasses traditional more costly and imprecise media methods.

The NFL has agreed to announce the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America ON AIR at the Super Bowl in Miami on Sunday, February 7, 2010, provided we get involved in promoting flag football. BSA and NFL have a common desire to promote youth fitness and here is a tremendous collaboration initiative opportunity. They would like us to sell the flag football program items (flag belts, 2 NFL footballs, and the NFL jersey of their choice – all for $20) in our Scout Shops and encourage the units to make flag football part of their program activities. The NFL has regional tournaments and a national tournament of champs at Disney World each year where our Scouts could compete. We could develop a special belt loop recognition for flag football.

How about getting a bunch of uniformed Scouts on a float or in some other aspect at the Macy's Parade? One all America institution supporting another
How about getting a bunch of Boy Scouts on a float or some other representation in the Macy's Parade? Not sponsoring nessasarily but volunteering to ride on one or as a group or as balloon wranglers.....

The Centennial Quality Uniform Shirts are much shorter in length than the previous uniform shirt. This means that our larger members find that the shirt is untucked from their centennial uniform pants when they bend over to pick something up. The shirts need to be longer to ensure that the shirt remains tucked in and we continue to look neat.
