Centennial Uniform Didn't Go Far Enough
Warning In Progress
The new BSA uniform was a needed change to appear relevant and appealing in today's American society. However, I don't think the change was progressive enough. Here are a few suggestions:
-Eliminate the shoulder loops and epaulets. They give the uniform an outdated look and realistically not needed.
-Eliminate the large cuffs on the sleeves. It gives the shirt a vintage look which we should avoid.
-Eliminate (or adapt) the should pocket. I think it was a good concept, but too many volunteers joke (and use) it as their cigarette pocket.

I respect the new uniform, and our uniform tradition.
Thoughtful consideration to offering additional uniform options designed by and offered by companies who today's youth find fun to wear should be made. There's a reason why kids want to wear UnderArmour, Nike, etc... Those would be cool and fun uniforms. In summary, having several uniform choices is a good thing. Then let the market decide.

I've never heard of underarmmor, but Nike used Michael Jordan. What major personality can we pay to wear our stuff in an outdoor setting? and how much would it cost?

Agast strikes again! I agree with the suggestions and think the front kangaroo pockets and the shoulder loops should go. It would not be a big deal to take those off future runs without any fanfare. The original (1910) uniforms still look classic because they had good lines and didn't have forty patches on them. The sleeve pocket is ok. I put my national staff trading cards in there (just kidding). The position patch issue will solve itself over time.

Did anyone else see the shirt put out by Ecko that is very similar to our new shirt?

I agree that the new uniforms are a good move. The two major complaints which I have heard are 1) eliminate the shoulder pocket and 2) many of the ladies do not like the bulky front pockets.

Many of the male Scouters don't like the bulky front pockets, either... they may look fine on a Cabella's outdoor sporting vest, but they clash with the more formal appearance of a "uniform". The side pockets are cool, but not very practical unless you use them for your iPod (which is intended) or your cigarettes (which is not).

I would suggest adding pen slots on the sleeve, such as 5.11 puts on their shirts. It is practical, and takes the pen away from the knots.

Also, are there plans to rnsure patches fit on the new uniforms? The knots do not fit right, some position patches do not, and neither do lodge flaps.

Other than that, nice design.

I would like to see the older poly-wool options for more formal occaisions.

There's a reason why we don't see the uniform worn in public or at school. The epaulets and neckerchiefs are particularly dated. Maybe we could move the rank displays to a backpack, vest, or belt decoration?

As most BSA physiques I've seen would not be well-suited (sorry) to the Under Armour-Nike fitted look, why can't we lean to the more functional Patagonia-REI-Ex Officio look?
