It might be corny to some, but it would be neat if a group of Scouts dressed up in 1910 uniforms and came bugling over the top of the hill on horseback carrying troop flags and banners and waved to the crowd at the stage show. Then turned around and disappeared back into the past. There are probably better ideas than that. The jamboree was delayed a year specifically to celebrate the 100th Anniversary, so why not feature the old uniforms somehow?
Maybe we could have a 'photo' area where old uniforms could be worn by scouts and they could have their picture taken in a 'period' uniform... they could range from the earliest to more recent. There have been many variations and even some of the insignia, hats and other accouterments could be added. Might make a fun keepsake.
Retro clothes are very popular with young people. These would most likely be a big seller if made available for purchase at the Jamboree. They wouldn't have to made from wool (as they were 100 years ago); just the same style as 1910 only made of a cotton blend. I find it interesting that those who voted it down don't say why.
As a single Mom myself, I see how it's challenging enough just to get a boy to Jamboree. Then having to come up with the money for a uniform that will probably never be worn again? That's why I voted against it. Too cost preventative. I did like John Whitford's idea of photo area. All the big attractions do it, either by putting on the clothes or sticking your head in a stand up board.
Often amusement parks or county fairs will have photo booths with "Wild West" clothes and guns for "cowboy" pictures. Having a retro photo booth would be cool. I like the idea of a "re-enactment Patrol or Troop" for Jambo. It is very common these days with Civil War, WWII, and even Star Wars living history units.
