Make Scoutnet (and all other BSA Software) more accessible with Mac Computers. The amount of college students (and eventual graduates!) using Mac computers is growing rapidly!
Let's not forget that the growing user base that doesn't use Internet Explorer as a browser rathar they use a Mozzilla base (Safari, Firefox) which doesn't interact well with our Volunteers as we encourage them to do more and more online when our systems aren't a compatable with what is the real world.
We're sticking ourselves as an organization in a spot when we want all recharting on-line and all advancements to be entered online, commissioners to utilize on-visit tracking system, leaders to do training on-line. But they can't use it when they try in a Non-Internet Explorer Environment and the functionality of it isn't how they are told.
It's unfortunate that Mac users cannot even get to IdeaScale website to support this idea without going to great pains. I'd suggest every favorable vote it receives be multiplied by a factor of ten to account for those shut out of the discussion.
When we limit our ability to serve the public via Internet unless done with one preferred browser and one platform, we project an image of lacking technical sophistication. This isn't exactly what we want for our brand.
Unfortunately, when I arrived at my council, they didn't have a laptop for me, and I had a Mac. It worked ok, but there were several applications that I couldn't use that I really needed, so I bought at PC. Guess what? Vista didn't work either! What really amazed me is that "Boy's Life" department is ALL Mac based!!
I use a mac at home, and occasionally at the office. It's fine if you just need to look up something in mybsa, a name or an address, but other than that, it's useless.
I'd love to be able to sync my e-mail to the mail program (which I can do on my iphone but not my laptop), as well as my calendar. It would also be nice if I could use Safari or Firefox to get on all the national level sites I use near-daily.
