Temporary Tattoos
BSA's Licensed and Custom Products team has had a number of requests in recent years for fun, temporary, tattoos with Scouting and related symbols to support recruiting. To date, we have not created these items due to public perception of tattoos; however, as our culture changes it seems to be time to rethink this position.

These would be temporary, water-applied tattoos, available only by special order. It would wash off within a few days. The tattoos would not be stocked in the Scout Shop. Designs would be determined if or when we decided to proceed. We don't envision these to be much different than what kids are already purchasing or applying from special bubble gum wrappers.

We recognize that these could not be given out at schools during classroom events. Although, we envision that they would be made available at other sign-up events.

We'd like to hear your opinion.

I believe the key is as society changes - and the type of logos selected. How many high end executives in business have a pierced ear - or at least evidence of having had an earing at one time. Scouting needs to maintian its values and keep up with the times.

My 7 year old Wolf asked why there are not Cub Scout tatoos last night as we washed off his Spiderman tatoo.

I think they would be a big hit with the 1st - 5th graders.

The Western Region handed out temporary tatoos that stated "West is Best" at the 2002 NOAC and it was a huge success.

Cleaning our our supply closet getting ready for fall, I ran across a bunch of temperary tatoos of the Cub Scout logo....not sure how old they were but they must have been offered at one time or another.

What a fun idea! My three nephews LOVE their temporary tattoos... It'd be great to give them one with the logo of where their Uncle Jeremy (and their cousin Jacob) "goes to camp at!"

IMHO, there's a big difference between temporary tattoos and the real thing... I don't think we'd see much pushback from families (like mine!) who frown on real tattoos.

I know some think it is old fashioned but tattoos are and any marks on the body are considered to be defiling the body and against religious teachings. For BSA to encourage that by providing tattoos even temporary ones would seem to encourage it.
Also many tattoos are also associated with slavery and concentration camps which are not positive models.
Personally I think some of the temporary ones are cute but I also believe they do encourage the wearers to think about the real thing and maybe we do not want to do that.
