Alternative BSA Under Armour Field Uniform
Warning In Progress
Let's pilot an alternative BSA Under Armour Field Uniform, as an alternative to the current uniform. This uniform will appeal to kids who represent a diverse, varied cross-section of America youth. This Field Uniform will have a look for today's 12 year old boy who may not want to be seen in public in his Boy Scout uniform. Let the price point be competitive, not too high end, but not discount. This Field Uniform will support attracting and retaining a larger market share of youth who may have not been Cub Scouts but see the popularity of Under Armour gear. Our Scouts are already wearing Under Armour products....so let's just try it!

Like the thinking. I wish we would do more to build our brand though so Scouts aren't ashamed to wear their uniform. What if you walked into Walmart or Target and you saw tee-shirts with our emblems and Scouts on them? Build the brand like sports teams do and then people will gladly pay $40-80 for authentic jerseys. Get Scouting out of the huts and back into people's lives again.

It is said, but it is very much true. In fact, I had a boy just the other day tell me that he was going to leave Scouting because he does not like the uniform. I did ask what he did not like about it, but he could not give me a firm answer; it is, however, more of a reality than we may realize. Maybe something unique wouldnt be a bad idea.

The uniform is fine the way it is. If you cater to trends in fashion, you will be chasing your tail forever. Making dramatic changes to the uniform would change our brand. Boys and professional players eagerly dress up in 19th century garb to play baseball. Boys look forward to getting their first Karate gee. High school youth proudly wear marching band uniforms that John Phillip Susa would be proud of. So be proud of who we are. Wear your uniform to work tomorrow.
