Tiger Cub requirement 4G
Tiger requirement 4G reads, "Visit a television station, radio station, or newspaper office. Find out how people there communicate with others."

Does this really make sense? How many Tiger cubs are able to go out and complete this requirement? In light of 9/11 a lot of TV, radio and newspaper stations are refusing to allow tours. I think that this should be eliminated and replace it with something that makes sense and is feasible for a Tiger den to actually complete.

I find it hard to belive that newspaper office's are refusing tours due 9/11, I used to work in the newspaper industry and we always welcomed the commuity into our newsroom.

Where is this happening? My sons have completed this requirement at radio stations in 2008 and 2006, and we had no difficulty setting it up in Connecticut. The boys went on the air each time too, talking about Cub Scouts.

This is still a very appropriate activity. Public televbison stations are begging for this type of engagement with youth and their families.

Newspapers are also looking for positive PR with potential readers. I have seen some very good stories in local papers about Scout's visiting their operations.

I have not come across difficulties with visits - even in New York City and Long Island.

What do the 9/11 attacks have to do with visiting a television or radio station or a newspaper office? Answer: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I have friends who work in each of these types of offices and they are always offering to take groups of Scouts on tours if there is ever a need.
