Professional Dress Uniform
While we are changing our scout uniforms to changing tastes and styles, why don't we think about changing our professional dress uniform to something more hip as well? Also, it would be an inexpensive change for National, since we buy our own jackets, slacks, etc..

YES,

WE CAN FINALLY LOOK LIKE WE ARE PROFESSIONALS....INSTEAD OF AMERICAN AIRLINE ATTENDANTS......FROM THE 50'S...OR CAST MEMBERS FROM HARRY POTTER...lol

LETS GO WITH A BLACK SUIT AND A POWER (RED) BSA TIE FOR THE GUYS....

LET THE LADIES DO THE SAME....BLACK BUSINESS SUIT...

YES....IT IS WAY PAST TIME ...GREAT IDEA ED

we wear regular, professional business suits in my council. The "official" BSA tie is not a good looking tie. Two or three contemporary red, white, and blue designs would be great. A tie tack or tie clasp with a fluer-de-lis can top it off.

How about Earth-Toned suits? They could look more "scouty" than grey slacks and the blue blazer...whatever is decided I would like to see the gold buttons on the blazer go away.

Girl Scouts of America professionals are in "Professional Dress Uniforms" any time they wear the official Girl Scout pin. Short of a funeral I am not sure I can name a particular time when a dress uniform is necessary.

Do away with the professional dress uniform. The whole concept is way too 1950's-ish.

Change at least the Tie please.

Last time I wore this outfit was to PDL a decade ago. I dress the way my volunteers dress. If they wear overalls, so do I. If they wear designer slacks, so do I. I am not there to stand out. I am there to make them feel comfortable around me.

While I agree that an updated version of the uniform would be good, I still think that it SHOULD be a uniform, rather than just a pin we wear with clothing of our choosing.

Although our council also typically asks for standard business suits for FOS report meetings, board meetings, and such, the professional dress uniform is still an important part of our movement nationwide and something that we all share as pro staff.

We are, fundamentally, a uniformed organization; it is one of the methods of Scouting that is designed to build feelings of belonging and to remove barriers that can be expressed by clothing. As well, it expresses who we are to the world at large.

So--updating, okay (black suit/white shirt, Scouting tie for guys and/or scarf for women), eliminating--no.

I agreee with this one but part of the problem with the Pro Uniform is that we really don't look like Scouts in it. Don't we want to be identifiable as Scout/Scouters or "The Scout Guy/Gal" in a crowd. I have in years past worn the Green Wrangler (still american made I think) Riata dress slacks with the uniform shirt. Maybe we could just bring the Tan Uniform shirt up to a professional (with a tie) standard! I hate tie's in general and despise every day I am forced to wear them! And my father (a doctor) always tells me that they are one of the top ten for carrying disease and bacteria since they are rarely washed.

Anyway, I think the pro uniform should look like the Scout uniform only "professional" looking. No patches other than the BSA patch and maybe BSA buttons. Maybe a Green jacket to go with it.

Thats my idea anyway.

I kind of like your Idea Michael...a little worried that a khaki BSA uniform with a tie might look to much like a German SS officers uniform :o
