Good Turn for America
Warning In Progress
For to long troops and packs have been asked to go to the Good turn for America website and document their service projects. How many times have they contacted the council office asking for their password because they forgot or lost it. What if we link the online recharter process with the good turn for america process and have the units at least visit the GTFA site before they can log off the recharter site? At least this way we may have a more accurate data base with service projects.

The data reporting process is currently being evaluated for upgrading, however budgetary priorities will need to be taken into consideration.

This would be a fair suggestion if it came after finishing the charter renewal. I'm all for making the renewal process as quick and painless as possible. Adding a step (Give us your GTFA hours) might only slow down our renewals.

The online advancement website has the same code as the GTFA. We are requiring all our units to go to the online advancement website to log their advancement. Maybe we could link the advancement website to GFTA since they enter advancement more often.

Unit leaders do not make entering hours on a web site a priority, and in small or weak units they almost never will.
We sould try putting this responsibility on the youth. A Cub Scout or Boy Scout will more readily go online to enter his service hours than an overwhelmed adult leader who thinks of this as a low priority. Make entering service hours a part of the Boys' Life web site and watch for an increase in the number and accuracy of service hours entered.

I question as to BSA's committment to the future of this program. Those who started in 2004 and did a Good Turn each year have now obtained the segments to completely encircle the patch. The GTFA information is very difficult to access through scouting.org, and I wonder if this is a program whose time is about to expire.
